ipad logoNowadays, when it comes to consumer technology, two big devices pop up in our minds: the iPad and the iPhone. Having a history that doesn’t go over 5 years, these two products represent almost a perfect example of simplicity and versatility. That’s why the sales keep climbing and climbing, as having an iPhone or an iPad has become a tech dream for many of you out there.

But there’s a problem with all this Apple praise, when it comes to waiting for an iPhone or iPad release, we are being rained down with rumors, rumors and much more rumors and here’s an interesting one indeed.

iPad 3 to have Retina Display

This time, Softpedia suggests that iPad 2’s successor could have Retina Display with a 2048 × 1536 resolution. They are basing their supposition on John Gruber’s remarks, from Daring Firebal:

“These magazines and newspapers that render each ‘page’ as a static 1024 × 768 image are going to look like utter ass on the iPad 3’s 2048 × 1536 retina display. Plus, it’s the fact that these pages are rendered as static images that makes the issues such gargantuan downloads.”

Everybody knows that John Gruber is viewed as an Apple pundit, that’s why his observation couldn’t pass unnoticed. We don’t know if this is only Gruber’s imagination or if he based his saying on recent rumors from Korea Times which suggested that Apple has worked with Samsung and LCD on a totally new LCD technology which could allegedly produce screens with exactly the same resolution – 2048 × 1536. However, I am a bit reluctant towards this rumor, being given the fact that Apple and Samsung are currently in a plethora of lawsuits. It’s highly unlikely that they’ll lay down their guns and start working together on such an advanced technological know-how.

Another source, familiar with the matter, mentioned that “Apple’s upcoming iPad 3 will feature an improved display to support quad extended graphics (QXGA), a display resolution of 2048×1536 pixels with a 4:3 aspect ratio to provide full high-definition (HD) viewing experience.”

However, there’s a minus to this resolution. There could be fewer pixels per inch, unless Apple doesn’t come up with a revolutionary screen. All Apple’s products are always shrouded in mystery and this “marketing” plan always seems to brilliantly work for the Cupertino Company.

It’s interesting to see whether the iPhone 5 will have significant display changes, as its launch is near, the most valid release rumors suggestion we could see it in September.
