galaxy nexus simple beautiful smartAll the while I thought that it would take some time before I will replace my Samsung Galaxy S II. But then Google and Samsung has joined forces to come up with a new Android smartphone that will finally make me abandon my SGS II phone earlier than I planned. The culprit? The new Galaxy Nexus smartphone.

Although there are some specs and technical details that make the Galaxy Nexus a bit inferior to the SGS II, the fact that it will be the first device to run the just announced Android 4.0 and both Google and Samsung joining forces to make this the king of Android smartphones – are enough reasons for me to consider getting the phone as soon as it becomes available.

Let’s take a quick rundown of the features of the Galaxy Nexus phone, shall we?

Galaxy Nexus – Simple, Beautiful and Smart

Galaxy Nexus back and front

Google describes the Galaxy Nexus as simple, beautiful, and smart. Just by reading its specs, looking at the published images of the phone and watching the promo video – I was immediately convinced that Google was telling the truth.

Inside and out, the Galaxy Nexus is a thing of beauty and power. Yes, it’s a fusion of great engineering design and well-conceived features with dashes of innovation.

Slim and Sexy Smartphone Design

Galaxy Nexus Design

When I first saw the previously released Samsung Nexus S, I thought nothing could be sexier than its contoured body. But I was wrong. The Nexus S was still a bit on the thick side. Google and Samsung knew this and so they made the Galaxy Nexus sexier and slimmer and maintained its curved form factor. This goes well with the phone’s no-button design and 8.84mm thickness and 4.29mm bezel.

Gorgeous Screen Display

Complimenting the Galaxy Nexus’ design and form factor is a 4.65-inch super AMOLED screen display with 1280×720 pixel resolutions. That’s full HD display for you, folks. Except for the “Plus” factor of the screen display of the SGS II, the Galaxy Nexus obviously has the better end of the deal here.

It can display text, videos and games crisper, more vibrant and richer than the competition. Plus, it has an edge-to-edge 720p screen high-definition display which make videos look more amazing, especially with its contour display curves.

Android 4.0 aka Ice Cream Sandwich

Galaxy Nexus Android 4.0

Obviously, Ice Cream Sandwich tastes better than Gingerbread. And so does the features and capabilities of Android 4.0 than Android 2.3 (and all its flavors) which is currently used by most Android smartphones available in the market today.

With Galaxy Nexus being the first to have a taste of Ice Cream Sandwich, it has all the advantage of becoming the best Android phone to date. What? You don’t know what Android 4.0 is capable of? Read our review of the major features of Android Ice Cream Sandwich.

A 5MP Camera with Advanced Features

Galaxy Nexus Camera

I know, 5MP is far inferior with the SGS II and iPhone 4S 8MP camera. Google and Samsung know this and so to make the camera of the Galaxy Nexus more interesting and appealing, they’ve peppered it with several nice features.

These include zero shutter lag, automatic focus, top-notch low-light performance and a simple and yet intuitive way of capturing panoramic pictures without needing to install third-party panoramic photo-stitching apps. The phone’s camera is capable of taking full 1080p videos as well with a bonus sharing feature right from the phone.

Connectivity. Name It and This Phone Has It

First and foremost, the Galaxy Nexus is a 4G-LTE capable smartphone. But that will depend on the region where you will be using it. If LTE network is not yet available, the Galaxy Nexus is able to connect to a 3G HSPA+ network with a promise of 21Mbps speed. In other words, with the right network available, the Galaxy Nexus promises to deliver high-speed Internet connection at all times.

Innovative Features of the Galaxy Nexus

Galaxy Nexus Android Beam

Like I said, the Galaxy Nexus phone has the fair advantage over other Android smartphones for being the first Android 4.0-powered device. As such, you can enjoy three major, innovative features of Android 4.0 on the Galaxy Nexus. These are Android Beam, Face Unlock and People App.

Android Beam lets you share apps, maps, contacts, websites, directions and YouTube videos to other people using NFC-capable devices via touch to beam and share. Face Unlock is a new face recognition technology that lets you unlock the Galaxy Nexus just by looking (and perhaps smiling) at your phone’s camera.

And Finally, People App lets you browse friends, family, and coworkers, view their photos in high-resolution display and check their latest status updates on Google+ as well as other social networks.
