Part of a suite of apps for both iOS devices and desktop, Splashtop Touchpad is a pretty useful app for both personal and business purposes. It basically lets use your iPhone as a remote trackpad/mouse for your computer (both Mac and PC).

There are already other apps which can do the same thing and perhaps even as far as computer mirroring. What sets Splashtop Touchpad apart from other apps like it is how fast and swift it works even on a crappy wireless network. So here we give you a quick review of the Splashtop Touchpad app.

Splashtop Touchpad – What is it? What it does and How Does it Work?

As mentioned, Splahstop Touchpad is an iPhone app that lets you control your computer. It lets you turn your iPhone into a remote keyboard or touchpad. As such you can use it during business presentations or at home when you want to remotely control your computer – to play music, surf the web, open apps, and more.

The app works with both Mac and Windows desktop or laptop. The only requirement is that both your iPhone and your computer are connected to the same wireless network. You must also download the Splashtop Streamer app and install it on your computer.

Using Splashtop Touchpad

What you will really appreciate about Splashtop Touchpad aside from the fact that it works fast and flawlessly in controlling your computer using your iPhone is the fact that it is very easy and quick to set-up. In just a short time, you’ll be able to start using the app.

First thing you need to do is of course get the app from the App Store. It’s currently available as a free download but we heard that it won’t be for long. So, better get it now and install it on your iPhone. After doing so, download the Splashtop Streamer  desktop app and install it on your computer that you want to control using your iPhone.

Once the Remote app is installed, fire up Splashtop Touchpad on your iPhone and activate Splashtop. Create a security code on both Splashtop Streamer  on your computer and Splashtop Touchpad on your iPhone. Then enable Splashtop Streamer and Splashtop Touchpad will locate your computer automatically. Once the app found your computer, simply tap on it to activate the app.

Once the app is activated, your iPhone will display gray area which shall serve as a touchpad. At the top of the screen you’ll see several icons. The first one brings up the remote keyboard when tapped.

Next is the gear icon which lets you activate some settings including – Show Trackpad buttons, Display side scrollers and Tune sensitivity. You can see the side scrollers at work by simply tapping and swiping the right-most part of your iPhone screen. A yellow light will appear once you tap that said area. To scroll through pages, you simply do the two thumbs gesture on your iPhone’s screen. The next icons are the Shift and Ctrl options which you can use when typing text.

Take note that when using Splashtop, you can select an area by simply tapping on the left trackpad button and then dragging/swiping to highlight the text that you want to select.


As mentioned, Splashtop Touchpad app is useful for both business and personal use. During business presentations, you can now stay away from your computer, and move around as you control your slide presentations. For personal use, you can sit back, relax or even lie on your bed and remotely control whatever it is that you are doing in your computer.
