The momentum behind the launch of Google has come to a head as the company finally released its Cloud Storage Service. Google Drive serves as a Cloud-based storage solution for those using many of Google’s services. Google Drive for PC lets you utilize the cloud storage through your computer and not only sync files but store them online.

Our guide will get you started with Google Drive for PC and show you how to use it the first time. Keep in mind that Google Drive and its PC software are still in the beginning stages so while it may seem simple now, Google Drive will get even better in the future.

Getting Started with Google Drive for PC

Once you have received your invite to Google Drive, you can also take advantage of the PC sync it offers.

Upon logging into the service the first time, you will be prompted to download and install the software for the PC.

A pop-up will appear asking you to go over the Terms of Service. You want to read through the Google Apps Terms of Service and Google Terms of Service before continuing.

You can also opt in to sending usage statistics and more to help make Google Drive for PC even better. Click “Accept and Install” when you are ready to go through the installation process.

From there, once the installation file is finished downloading, you can begin installing it. Simply follow the common steps to install Drive for PC and then you can get started with using it.

How to use Google Drive for PC

When you first open the app, you will be prompted to login.

Sign in

Simply enter your username and password to get started. From there, you can also opt to stay signed in so that Google Drive for PC can sync and work on your behalf instantly.

Click “Sign in” to continue.

Google will welcome you to Drive, click “Next” to move forward.

From here, you can access the advanced settings for Google Drive for PC. Click “Advanced setup.”

This will allow you to set where your default Google Drive folder will be on your computer as well as opt into which folders on your computer can be automatically synced. You can also choose whether Google Drive for PC will launch when you start your system or not.

When you are ready, click “Start Sync” to set up the sync between your PC and Google Drive.

When you are finished with the settings, your Google Drive folder will pop open for you to begin working with.

You will also be given a shortcut on your desktop to the folder for easy access as well as a tray icon for Google Drive for PC.

In order to easily start using Google Drive for PC, simply drag and drop files or folders into the Google Drive folder.

Once there, they will begin syncing as long as you are connected to the Internet.

If you log into Google Drive through your Internet browser, you will now have access to the file you dragged and dropped.

Now, through your browser, if you create a new document, once saved it will also sync with your desktop through Google Drive for PC.

Anytime you want to sync files from your desktop, all you need to do is drag and drop them into the Google Drive folder. If you set up automatic syncing of folders, this process will happen without you having to do a thing. You can change what folders are synced automatically at any time by right clicking the Google Drive for PC tray icon and going into its settings.
