IM+ is an Android app that lets you sync a variety of instant messengers to use on the go. These instant messengers include: Google+, Windows Live, Facebook, Skype, AOL Instant Messenger and more. Pretty much every major IM service is included in IM+ so you can stay connected no matter what program you use to chat. IM+ also features a slick UI for Android devices, optimizing the overall app for use on them. You can save chat history, participate in group chats on certain services as well as stay logged into multiple accounts at once. Our guide will get you started with IM+.

How to Use IM+

After downloading, installing and starting IM+, you can begin using it as soon as you sync one of your IM accounts.

When you first open IM+, you will be created by a plethora of instant messengers at your disposal. Click the Options button on your Android.

This will open the additional areas of IM+. Click “Settings.”

This will open up the settings for IM+ for you to go through. For most users, leaving the settings as is will work just fine. However, for others, you may need to tweak how notifications and other UI settings work so you can get the most out of how IM+ works.

Before you sync an account, you will be prompted to create an account with Beep. Beep is the service behind the development of IM+. By joining Beep, you can gain access to free SMS service, paid services as well as an ad-free version of IM+. If you opt to join Beep, you will go through the sign up process before being able to add your own accounts to IM+.

Once you are ready to add your own accounts to IM+, click on the service you want to add. For our guide, we will use Google Talk.

Click the “Google Talk” icon in the main screen.

Then, enter your e-mail address and password. You can also describe the account. This can come in handy when you use the same username for multiple instant messenger accounts.

You can also choose to automatically connect to the IM service when you open IM+, you can also receive notifications when something occurs in IM+, such as a friend request or an instant message.

When you have entered in your details and chosen your settings, click “Save and Connect.” This will save your information as well as log you into the service on your mobile phone.

It may take a few moments to login and sync the details. You will see the little turn arrows working to do just that as it connects.

While it is connecting, you can see the main menu once when you are using IM+ on a daily basis.

At the bottom, you can connect to all accounts and disconnect from them, too, at will. You can also see your contacts, chats and accounts by clicking on the various tabs at top. Once you are connected to several services and begin chatting, these tabs become more useful than they are at the moment.

You can also add a new account at any time by clicking “Add new account.”

Once connected to your first account, your IM list will populate with those who are online. You can click on them to start a chat and begin a conversation.

In the chat window, you can type in at will and even use your voice input feature if available. You can also use the emoticon window to add emotes if you are not sure how they will translate.

Now, if you head back to the main window for IM+, you will see you are connected to an account. If you disconnect, it will be grayed out. You can reconnect at any time by clicking the account or just click “Connect All” if you want to login to multiple accounts.

Then, click the “Chats” tab. This is where any of your active chats will appear, as well as inactive ones until you close the windows. If you happen to venture out of IM+ to check another app, take a call or anything, you can get back into the conversation by clicking this tab and picking up where you left off.

From the “Accounts” tab, you can add a new account at any time by clicking “Add new account.”

The first screen you saw when you installed IM+ will appear. You can then choose which type of account you want to set up and follow the steps from the beginning to add them to IM+.

IM+ is a great way to stay connected through your various services you use to chat.

Pros of IM+:

  • One of the largest collections of IM services in one app
  • Optimizes for use on the Android platform
  • Gives you features that actual IM services use within the app

Cons of IM+:

  • Can glitch out and freeze if multiple IMs from several services come in at once
  • Notifications may seem overwhelming until they are fine tuned

Is IM+ Your One And Only For Instant Messaging On The Go?

There are many types of IM apps out there for Android, iOS and other platforms that can get the job done. However, not many of them get the job done well. IM+ is an all-in-one instant messaging package that truly allows users to get the most out of their chats.

Most features from the IM programs themselves are available to users in IM+, plus you can connect multiple accounts from the same type of service which sometimes you cannot do with the actual program for your computer itself. If you are looking for a way to stay connected on the go, IM+ is the way to do just that on your Android phone.
