We’ve covered SUPERAntiSpyware before at TechNorms and while we were impressed by its scope of coverage, some of the tactics used to get your attention while using it were just too much. With the latest version of SUPERAntiSpyware, the first major update to the program since 2011, we’re taking a firsthand look at the Professional version to see if the changes made make us bigger fans.

For those unfamiliar with SUPERAntiSpyware, the program is an all-in-one spyware, malware, Trojan and more hunter. With its frequently updated database, it can be a useful tool in the arsenal to protect your PC from the threats of surfing the Web.

How to get SUPERAntiSpyware

SUPERAntiSpyware can be used in its free or professional versions, which can be obtained from its web site.

For the purpose of this guide, we’ll be using the professional version to show you what SUPERAntiSpyware can do with its highest level of protection.

Once downloaded, we chose to do a Custom Install to see what options came up for us to customize.

Nothing really stood out during that type of install, except at the end we were given the option to choose our language, join their mailing list and update and a run a diagnostic.

How to get started with SUPERAntiSpyware

When SUPERAntiSpyware is installed, you’ll be introduced the redesigned and sleek layout of the program.

Clicking on “Help” will bring you to SUPERAntiSpyware’s web site, where you can go through a variety of help documents and tutorials to help you get the absolute most from the software.

Click “Preferences” to get started with setting up the program.

General and Startup Preferences allow you to set how SUPERAntiSpyware works when you boot up Windows, along with what type of scans it’ll perform on boot up. If you’d rather scan manually, you can disable these options to take control of it yourself.

Click the “Scanning Control” tab to move forward.

This will give you the ability to customize how SUPERAntiSpyware works for you while scanning your system for harm. You can also manage your allowed items, exclude folders and even schedule scans for when you’re away from your computer.

Next, click the “Real-Time Protection” tab.

The Professional version of SUPERAntiSpyware gives you real-time protection, one of the biggest features not available in the Free edition which is what really gives the program a leg up for users.

From here, you can enable real-time protection to ensure you’re continuously protected from threats. This is one of the most effective uses of SUPERAntiSpyware and something that can work in conjunction with existing anti-virus programs to give you maximum coverage.

The next tab, Hi-Jack Protection, can be used to set your homepage and display notifications if a program, extension or other hijacker tries to change it.

Then, the Updates tab, allows you to configure how SUPERAntiSpyware updates itself.

This includes software updates as well as database and protection updates which are invaluable to protecting your PC. Setting up automatic updates is the best way to stay protected at all times.

Finally, click “Help.”

This will give you additional information on SUPERAntiSpyware, as well as how to get help with the program.

Back at the main screen, you can click “Check for Updates” at any time to manually update the program.

How to use SUPERAntiSpyware

Let’s get to the more practical aspects of SUPERAntiSpyware.

From the main screen, before scanning, you can choose the type of scan you want to utilize.

SUPERAntiSpyware lets you choose from the following: Quick, Complete, Critical or Custom. You can also choose to do a Rescue Scan, which allows you to do a more in-depth scan for highly infected systems.

For this guide, we’ll do a Quick Scan to get started.

Once we’ve chosen that, we’ll click “Scan your Computer….”

A new window will open to start scanning your system in real-time.

You’ll see the progress of the scan to the right, as well as what it’s found in the primary window.

When the scan is complete, a pop-up will appear to show you the results.

Click “Continue” to deal with those threats.

SUPERAntiSpyware gives you several options for dealing with these threats once you click on one.

Once you click on a threat, you can click “Explain Selected Item” to get information on what it is, where it came from and potentially how to avoid it.

If you believe an item is a false positive, you can also report that to help improve the SUPERAntiSpyware protection database.

You can also manage your allowed items and add to the trusted items list, too.

Clicking “View Scan Log” will bring up more details of the scan you just performed; you can also access these logs from the main screen at any time by clicking View Scan Logs.

When you’re ready to clean up what SUPERAntiSpyware found, click “Remove Threats” to begin the process.

This will take just a few moments, when finished, SUPERAntiSpyware will show you it was able to eliminate those threats on your behalf.

As you can see, the Professional version of SUPERAntiSpyware not only finds a variety of threats but lets you manage how you deal with each and every one of them.

What do we think of the new and updated SUPERAntiSpyware?

Since the last time we showed you how to use SUPERAntiSpyware, we were hoping that eventually it’d offer a more streamlined approach to dealing with PC threats. The latest version does improve upon what previous versions offered users, including less intrusion overall on your computer that we found annoying last review.

SUPERAntiSpyware finds threats where other programs may overlook them, and after running several scans on our PC, we were amazed by what it found that programs like AdAware, Spybot and even Malwarebytes missed.
