Most of the Android devices come with good cameras that can be used to take quality photos and videos. While it is fun to have a nice camera handy at the right moments, transferring these photos and videos to the computer can be a bit of a hassle.
Mounting your device to your computer every time you take a photo is not really the most comfortable way to transfer your media. Set your photos and videos to auto-upload to a pre-defined network location using Sweet Home!
Sweet Home! Android app automatically transfers all the photos and videos from your Android to a network location on your computer. The upload process is carried out wirelessly over WiFi.
About Sweet Home! App for Android:
Sweet Home has a simple interface, with option to start a manual upload and set the settings for upload of files.
You need to select a Home WiFi network from the available networks. The app triggers on connecting to this network and checks for images to process. You can set the app to scan for images either when connected to the Home WiFi network or when the phone is charging.
Network Share is a shared folder on your network to which the images are automatically uploaded.
How to share a folder on the network?
If you wish to share a new folder as the destination for the files transfer, follow the steps below.
1. Navigate to the desired folder, right-click, go to Properties.
2. Go to the Sharing tab. You will see the network path as ‘Not Shared’.
3. Click on Share, from the drop down list select ‘Everyone’ and set permission to Read/Write.
4. Click Add and then Share. You will get a network path as shown below.
5. If you wish to cancel sharing, go to Advanced Sharing and uncheck the ‘Share this folder’ option.
Sweet Home Settings:
If you are using password protection for file sharing, enter the username and password. Else keep these fields empty and enter the network path. Tap Check now to verify settings.
Enter the Network share as ‘YourComputerName/SharedFolder’ (Same path as the one you see as Network Path above.)
Note: Though these settings should work just fine, the connection to the server may fail. One way around this problem is to enter the IP address of your computer in place of the computer name.
To check your IP address, enter ipconfig in the command prompt. The IP address is listed against ‘IPv4 Address’ field.
Enter the IP address in place of the computer name and check the settings again. The app background lights up as the setting are verified.
By default, all the photos that you take from the stock camera app are stored in the folder 100MEDIA. Custom camera apps store the images elsewhere. To automatically upload these photos as well, set the path of that folder in the advanced settings.
Every time you connect to the Home network or keep your device to charging, the app checks for new images to process and uploads them if all settings are ok. Detailed documentation is provided to get you started with the app!
Free Alpha version of Sweet Home! is available on the Android market for trial. Paid version is stable and offers better settings and network connectivity.
Sweet Home is a useful app. There is a lot of room for improvement but it functions pretty well as it is. Once set up, it relieves you off the hassle to manually transfer all your photos and videos manually. If you are one who needs frequent transfer of media from your Android to the computer, this app is for you! Check it out.
