As a commuter, I’m always looking for ways to stay connected on the go. Whether it’s solar chargers, portable chargers or extended batteries, there are so many options out there, it’s hard to find one that works consistently. Poldera understands that we’re on the go and we want our devices to stay powered up. The iKeep Charger On the Go is one product that helps you keep your mobile charged no matter what the day brings you.

We took the iKeep OTG on a test drive to see if could keep up with our mobile lifestyle. Let’s look at what the iKeep does, how it holds up and whether it’s worth investing your time and money.

A Brief Introduction to Poldera

Poldera is a small, but growing, a company located in Hermosa Beach, California. They are focused on creating a line of products that keep mobile devices charged and ready to use when you are on the move.

They’re relatively new, having been around since 2010 but they have released a variety of products that keep phones and tablets charged while traveling. The iKeep is their first major release and has seen evolution since it first hit the market.

Why I Chose the iKeep Charger OTG

I’m always looking for ways to charge my phone while commuting. As a commuter, my phone isn’t just there to make calls. I use it to listen to music through Spotify, I check the news and my RSS feeds with Feedly and I stay connected to the handful of social networks I’m on.

As you can imagine, that drains my battery if I’m not careful. The iKeep Charger OTG looked easy to carry and would give me enough charge on my commute to and from work should I need the extra juice to do some work or stay entertained.

iKeep Charger On the Go

The iKeep Charger On the Go, or OTG, is an all-in-one mobile charger. It offers charging ports for all major platforms so whether you have an Android, iPhone or something in between, you can charge anything with the iKeep. The OTG is best used when working with a phone but it can also be used to charge a tablet.

I use a Samsung Galaxy S3, along with a 7″ Galaxy Tab 3.0 when I’m commuting and throughout the day. My Galaxy Tab lasts for days, no matter what I do on it, but my Galaxy S3 has some battery drain issues since the last Android update.

Having a portable charger I can plug it into on the go is essential some days when I’m out and about doing business.

The design of the iKeep OTG allows you to store it on your belt buckle and keep your phone in your pocket. You can use it in a variety of ways to charge, such as sitting it on the table or keeping it in a backpack which is what I commonly did on the bus or light rail.

One of the best things about the iKeep for me was that I could use it as a wall charger and a portable charger. Once fully charged from the wall, I could slip it into my backpack and use it as needed. I used the iKeep for a full month to ensure I was seeing consistent results, and I wasn’t disappointed.

The iKeep consistently not only held its charge but is quickly charged my phone up on the go even when actively using it.

Of course, I saw better results when I put my phone down and didn’t use it, but that was hard for me to do on most of my commutes when necessary. It took on average about two hours to charge my phone about 50 percent if I wasn’t actively using it.

I strongly recommend if you use the iKeep, or any portable charger, that you try not to use your phone when charging it. Don’t turn the phone off either, as restarting it will use a lot of battery. Just keep the screen off, maybe even put it on silent and let it sit idle for at least 30 minutes before picking it up against for maximum charging results.

My only issue with the iKeep was that it was sometimes difficult to keep the charger in my phone’s micro USB port with the Otterbox case I use. It seemed to easily fall out or come loose enough to stop charging. When I realized this was an issue, I was able to fix it going forward. I don’t necessarily feel this is a con of using the iKeep, more something users need to be aware of depending on the type of case the use for their phone or tablet.

Otherwise, the iKeep OTG lived up to its promises and demands while commuting and being used as a wall charger. I’m impressed with the design, although it’d be nice if it was a tad bit smaller for those of us who don’t always wear jeans every day. However, with the growing size of mobile phones and devices, the size might not matter as much in the future.

The iKeep Charger On the Go is a great clutch to have when you’re on the go and your battery is dying. Whether you’re out with friends, on the way to a business meeting or catching a sporting event, having the iKeep on hand can keep you in the loop when you’d otherwise be lost without your phone.

If you’re looking for an inexpensive way to keep your phone charged with an active lifestyle, I recommend looking into the iKeep Charger On the Go.
