Spotify LogoSpotify has made a splash in the United States and has been all over the news because of it. You can read our first hand Spotify review  and get an idea how this service works. While Spotify is only offered in a handful of countries, Americans are not the only ones who want to take advantage of what the streaming music service has to offer.

If you are looking for a Spotify invite in a country that offers it, you may be waiting months to get one. However, there are a few ways to get into Spotify if it is not offered in your country to take advantage of the service. Lets see how you can get started with Spotify right away.

Sign up for Spotify no matter where you live

The quickest way to get a Spotify invite is to set up your account in a country that is accepting invites. Since the United States is the only country holding back invites, you can sign up for an account and list your country as anything but America to get started.

The countries Spotify currently operate in are:

  • Finland
  • France
  • The Netherlands
  • Norway
  • Sweden
  • United Kingdom
  • United States

This means that as long as you list one of those countries, along with a zip code from that country, you can sign up and use Spotify without an invite and in a country that does not have a Spotify base of operations.

You cannot just go to Spotify and sign up with a foreign zip code. You will not be able to get to the site that way. You have to create the account using a proxy from the “country” you are signing up for. This quickest way to do this is to visit DaveProxy. (Update: It seems DaveProxy is no longer functional) Anonymouse is a good alternative.

Once there, you can head to Spotify.com. Simply enter in the URL and hit “Go” to continue. Spotify will think you are visiting from the United Kingdom and you will be able to access the sign-up form.

(3) enter url

Now that you are at the UK’s Spotify site, you want to click the “Login” link on the right hand menu bar. Then click on the “Sign up” link.

(4) sign up

There is a three step process to the Spotify sign-up process.

(5) sign up 1

First, you want to choose a username and password. Click “Go to the next step.”

(6) sign up 2

Now, you want to enter your e-mail address and location. This is where you want to put in a UK location.

(7) sign up 3

Open up Google and search for “McDonalds London Zip Code.”

(9) uk zip code

The first result that comes back will take you to the corporate McDonalds contact information page.

(10) up zip code 2

This is where you can get a zip code in London to use.

(11) zip code 3

Once you have entered in this information, you want to skip the next section about mobile phone data. You would only be able to enter a UK phone number to make it work, so until you can switch your information over to your country of choice, you will not be able to use that feature of Spotify.

(8) sign up 4

You want to choose if you want to receive e-mails from Spotify along with accepting the Terms and Conditions, then click “Go to the next step.”

Now under the “Choose your product” header, you want to click on “Open.”

(12) choose your product

You can click “Continue” and you will have created your Spotify account.

(14) account created

You want to open a new browser window of tab and then go to Spotify’s web site. Click on the “Continue to Spotify.com” link at the top of the screen.

(15) continue to spotify

From here, click on the “Log in” link at the top right of the screen. Enter in the details you used and click “Log in.”

(4) sign up

Now, right-click on your username in the top right of the screen and click on the “Edit profile” link.

(16) settings

If you live in a country that offers Spotify but does not have invites available or a way to sign up for free, enter your zip code and location. If you live in a country that does not offer Spotify, simply leave it set to the United Kingdom to begin using the streaming service.

(17) profile details to change

If you have changed the location, make sure to click “Save Profile” to change the details.

You now have either a Spotify account in a country that offers it or you can begin using the service from your home country. Just remember to keep the location details set to the United Kingdom until Spotify comes to your country.

Is it worth waiting for a Spotify invite the old-fashioned way?

If you do not want to wait to try Spotify out, figuring out a way to use it like using a United Kingdom zip code may be the way to go. If Spotify is not offered in your country, using this method can let you try it out as well. You will not be able to sign up for a paid account though. If you live in a country that offers the streaming service, you can also pay for a month of Unlimited or Premium service if you want to open up everything Spotify has to offer.

If you live in the US, it takes about a week or so it seems to get an invite if you go through the Spotify web site itself. As more sign up for Spotify, they will also be able to earn invites to hand out to family, friends and more, so you might want to ask around for a legitimate invite to the service. Spotify is well worth trying out, and if you cannot wait, there are ways like this to test it out now.
