Facebook-LogoJust last week, search giant Google began shutting accounts on its newest social network, Google+, that were used by companies in order to promote their services.  The shutting of company profiles was justified by Google, the giant arguing that it was a company’s policy to restrict access to individual users.

Needless to talk about the major success of Google +, who has reached more than 10 million users within two weeks of its release. But still, Google’s social network is far behind Facebook, which already counts 750 million users.

Facebook for Business – Is it a Reaction to Google+ features

Facebook might be seeing a threat in the newly launched Google+ since it now aims at providing the companies with what Google+  took away: a place where they could promote their business, found at Facebook.com/business. The new webpage is provided step by step guide that would help businesses take advantage of Facebook’s huge user base.

The companies are advised on such things as how to set up their profile page, how to create targeted ads and deals and how to interact with customer feedback.

It actually doesn’t bring new features, since business accounts have existed on Facebook for some time. It simply reorganizes the information, groups it into a single place and gives small companies the chance to grow. And most of all, maybe involuntarily, highlights the main difference between Facebook and Google +: that one of them encourages companies to use its services and user base, while the other one simply bans them.

In an email wrote Tuesday afternoon, a Facebook spokesperson says : “Facebook allows small businesses to create rich social experiences, build lasting relationships and amplify the most powerful type of marketing – word of mouth”.

The “Facebook for Business” may be the second clue that Facebook could be feeling threatened by the powerful Google+.  The first time when Facebook added new features to strike back at Google Plus was earlier this month when the company announced a partnership with Skype to bring video chat features within the social network site. And it came as a response to Google’s Hangouts – a video chat feature.

While the companies bring out their best in this fierce fight, users from both sides will just lay back, enjoy the competition and wait for another great feature or add-on to pop out of it.
