When it finishes restarting, you will see that Connectify is started and asking you to select the type of license. For this article, we will be talking about the Lite (Free) version. There is a pro version that offers more configuration options.
Configuring your new Wi-Fi hotspot
There are some basic settings you will need to enter to start. First off, you will need to name your connection. The default name is Connectify-me. Then you will need to add a password to protect your Wi-Fi connection.
On this screen, you will also need to change the type of internet connection you will be using in the base computer. If you opt for the pro license, you can have Connectify automatically choose for you.
Using your new Wi-Fi hotspot
To start streaming your connection, all you need to do is click the Start Hotspot button in the bottom left of the window. It may take a minute, but you will then see your connection is ready to be used by other devices.
The guest devices will connect to your base computer like it was a wireless connection at your local coffee shop. They will just need to type in the password you set and they can connect. When the guest devices are connected, you will see the device and the IP address given to each.
If you have someone who is leaching off of your connection, you can end their session by right clicking on the device and selecting Disable Internet Access. On the same screen, you can Disable Local Access.
There are other settings you may want to toy with. You can access them by clicking on the logo button in the top left of the Connectify window. You will see a drop down with other options for you to further customize your connection. In Advanced Settings, there is an option to time out idle connections. The default time is 3 minutes.
When you are ready to terminate your Wi-Fi stream, you can click on the icon in the top left and select Exit. There will be a confirmation box making sure you want to end the connection. Select yes and your all done.
