Click on Import and Backup. There you can see the various options for backing up and restoring your bookmarks.

  • Backup – The backup option lets you save the bookmarks on your computer in any desired location. The file is saved in the JSON Format, which is default format used by Firefox browser for backing up bookmarks.
  • Restore – Firefox cares for your bookmarks and makes automatic periodic backups for you. From the restore feature, you can restore bookmarks from the listed dates or choose a previous backup you have created using the backup option for restoration.
  • Import/Export HTML – Firefox also lets you export your bookmarks in HTML format. This is another way to back up your bookmarks. You can also import bookmarks from other browsers in HTML Format.

Backup Firefox Bookmarks Automatically With Add-ons:

Manually backing up bookmarks is fine if you don’t add new bookmarks every day. However, if you want automatic, timely backups for bookmarks, you can use any of the following add-ons.

  • XMarks – (Update: Addon is no longer available) Xmarks, previously known as Foxmarks, is one of the best bookmarking add-ons. It can keep your bookmarks, passwords and open tabs backed up and synchronized across computers and browsers. It takes bookmarking one step ahead by letting you search smarter with website ratings and reviews displayed with your search results.
  • Firefox Sync –(Update: Addon is no longer available – Instead set up sync for Firefox.) It is another free browser add-on that lets you stay in sync with your Firefox. Access your history, passwords, bookmarks and even open tabs across all your devices. This is an Official addon been developed by Mozilla and your data is synced across a computer with encryption and thus us safe from prying eyes.
  • FEBE (Firefox Environment Backup Extension) – This addon allows you to quickly and easily backup your Firefox extensions and Profile including the bookmarks. In fact, it goes beyond just backing up — It will actually rebuild your extensions individually into installable .xpi files. Now you can easily synchronize your office and home browsers.

Conclusion:

Backing up of important data is always a smart thing to do. That is why we write so often about backing up everything from your bookmarks to your entire computer using various software and techniques. If you care for your bookmarks you might want to use either of the methods mentioned above to keep your bookmarks safe, which are quite easy to use.
